Adamaz might have just pushed himself from nobody to notoriety overnight.
The rapper who touts himself as, “Florida’s Bad Boy Gangsta” on his Myspace page, has released an anthem about Mark Sanchez…the bad boy quarterback for the New York Jets.
The Ataris – San Dimas High School Football Rules
This song was my high school yearbook quote.
“Don’t give up fighting, ’til nothing else stands in your way. Don’t give up talking, until there’s nothing left to say. But no matter what you do, don’t ever compromise what you believe.”
…go ahead say what you will. I don’t care….na na na na.
The Ataris – Losing Streak
I guess these guys are still around…good for them.
Jim James, lead singer of the band My Morning Jacket, connesiuer of creme brulee, and all around awesome dude, posted today a message on the band’s homepage. It’s a pretty prophetic statement in response to the recent closing of Ear X-Tacy, a well established record store in the band’s home state of Kentucky.
We’ve seen a lot of this lately…local record stores the world over are shutting their doors. It’s near impossible to compete when $10 and two clicks of a mouse provides you everything you desire. (In many cases, the $10 isn’t even necessary…and I’m as guilty of this as anyone. I recognize that.) Jim’s statement however goes beyond just music. It explains the current state of the world, the hole that we’re digging…and implores us to put down the shovel and get back to the way things were.
As ridiculous as it may sound coming from someone who makes a living via the world wide web…I couldn’t agree more with the man (musical prophet?)
“there is a tear in my eye right now as i hear about the closing of one of my favorite places on earth- ear-xtacy. i send thanks and healing vibes to john and everyone who has worked so hard at the store over the years…the presence of that sacred place will be sorely missed. people- let this be a big wake up call to us…we need these places to gather as a community and share ideas about music and art and love and life and…. for the love of god…. it cant all take place online…or i fear that one day we will all wake up bleary-eyed and hung over from our technology binge and find the real world long gone… let us be inspired by places like “please and thank you,” “carmichaels,” “pops retail and consignment,” “heine brothers” and all the great independent ma and pa stores around the globe- leading us into a new era of what a creative business can be…we need to support these places and help create more…the mp3 has killed the idea of what a traditional record store used to be, but that should only be cause for us to re-invent and support things the computer can never kill…we need these real places… where you can still buy a record from a local band or a hard to find label or root thru stacks of used vinyl…or get a cup of coffee…or buy an old stereo system or a synthesizer or a pair of jeans…or learn a new skill…or teach a new skill…and love your fellow human in person and face to face and all in the same place. lets brainstorm. lets build more of these places. lets stick together. lets support each other. lets figure it out.” – jim james
BOO!
Today is October 31, 2011 and that means…Halloween!!!
To celebrate the spookiest of holidays, the always wacky Flaming Lips and frontman Wayne Coyne have created a 24 hour track which they are streaming right now over here: http://flaminglipstwentyfourhoursong.com/
I know I’m a little late. The stream started at 12:00am on the dot and plans to run it’s full 24 hours for the remainder of the day. Oh, and if you can’t catch the stream, you can purchase the 24 hour track for a measly $5000. You read correctly, thats $5,000.00. For that price you get the track as a usb device embedded inside an actual human skull. I wish I was joking but I’m not. There are 13 of them for sale, so if that’s your thing, get after it while you can!
The website says that there can be only 999 concurrent users listening to the stream, so get over ASAP.
I’m listening now and it’s, well…spooky as you’d expect.
If you have trouble with the stream, try refreshing and pressing play…it took me about 6 times to get in and get listening!
Tom Marshall is to Phish what Robert Hunter is to the Grateful Dead.
Tom, an early childhood friend of Anastasios, has penned an incredible well of tunes for the band since they first began performing together in ’83.
Back then, it was old recording equipment in a barn…a cassette recorder captured the scents and subtle sounds.
Today? Tom is embracing the web and his newly created Twitter account to bring those same recordings to the fans.
He is releasing these tracks, both new and oldies from the 80′s, via the rising SoundCloud music hosting service and alerting everyone via tweets as he does it.
Each song has a personal description that Tom attaches explaining the setting or concept behind the track. For example here’s the original “Backwards Down the Number Line” from the most recent album Joy
“This one was the one that reunited Trey and me again after a long silence in September 2007.Trey was in Saratoga Springs, NY, working very hard in his Drug Court program — helping himself, helping others…but not communicating with anyone…on purpose. His dad was key to breaking the silence and said I could email Trey a Happy Birthday and he “might answer”.At first I thought he was joking, because until that moment, Trey NEVER used email! So I sent off a birthday poem…these lyrics.2 hours later I received an “Oh My God, Tom” email. Then soon after, a phone call where he played me this song. Our writing conquered the chasm…the rift. The thing we did best and did forever, songwriting, reignited our friendship.”
So far he has posted 11 tracks and has talked to Trey who is equally excited about releasing more via the same method…so be sure to bookmark the soundcloud link below!
Just when it seemed like Shatner’s ‘cult status’ was a waning crescent, he goes and creates a CD of cover songs like this…and proves it’s actually a waxing gibbous.
Big day in the blog-o-sphere for the band Vetiver who have graced this blog a couple times before.

As anyone who knows me well can attest, I am a huge fan of the band My Morning Jacket.
Everything about the band exudes excellence and it’s great when others can see that too.
I won’t bore you with my words, here’s theres from the video’s description:
On June 24, My Morning Jacket descended on Oakland’s historic Fox Theater for an epic performance in support of their majestic album, Circuital. Remedy Editorial’s Scott Compton and his merry band of video documentarians made the scene on behalf of Boing Boing. You’ll remember Scott and crew as the artistes who brought The Swell Season and The Decemberists to the big little screen for Boing Boing Video. We are now honored to feature their loving cut of My Morning Jacket, interviewed and live in concert on June 24, 2011.
P.S. > December 14th, 2011 they’re playing MSG with Band of Horses…I got mine, you should get yours!
I check the great nyctaper blog daily. Their recordings are great and they cover artists of every genre.
Today I was happy to find they posted a recording of Vetiver who co-headlined the Bowery Ballroom with the Fruit Bats on Sept. 13, 2011.
Don’t know much about the Fruit Bat’s (…guess I’ll change that now) but I do enjoy Vetiver. They’ve got a jingly jangly 60′s sound that I’ve been in love with for a few years now. I too have seen them twice…including a very memorable trip with my friend Miles Ross at Brooklyns “Bell House”.
Anyways, if you’re looking for something to listen to on this crisp Autumn-ish wednesday…you’re there, man.

This is the video for “First of the Year” by Skrillex
It is awesome and that is all…
So this video has been making the rounds today.
It’s Jeff Tweedy of Wilco covering the Black Eyed Peas song, “I Gotta Feeling”
Mediocre at best…and something I’ve done a number of times with the same song just to get a laugh out of a few friends. The fact that Tweedy plays it and there’s an internet firestorm is a little frightening. How come no crowds scream for me, brah?
In other news, Wilco will be releasing their newest LP “The Whole Love” in a few weeks. Hopefully it contains serious music.
